Sara Witherell, DVM

Dr. Sara Witherell attended the University of Michigan where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Biopsychology. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she entered the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University, where she received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. With a strong desire to continue her veterinary professional education, Dr. Witherell pursued an internship in veterinary internal medicine, surgery and critical care at Long Island Veterinary Specialists.
As part of the Bellerose Animal Hospital team of veterinarians, Dr. Witherell brings experience in working with birds and other exotic pets. Some of this experience was gained during preceptorships at Angell Memorial Animal Medical Center in Boston and at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. With experience in exotic animal medicine and surgery, Dr. Witherell cares for small pocket pets, birds and some reptiles in Bellerose, Elmont, Queens Village, Floral Park, South Floral Park and other Long Island communities. In addition to exotic animal medicine and surgery, Dr. Witherell has professional interests in companion animal internal medicine and ultrasound.
Dr. Witherell enjoys spending her free time with her pets. They include Lily, a Boxer mix, and cats Emma and Ernie. All of Dr. Witherell's pets have been rescued from humane societies and have been given a second chance at life.
Camping trips with Lily and photography are some of Dr. Witherell's passions. When not working at the animal hospital, you can find our multitalented veterinarian in her darkroom where she pursues her interest in black and white photography.
