USDA Certificatesfor International Travel

One way travel from United States to another country

**Certain countries require paperwork/testing minimum 4 months prior to travel.

Fill client checklist and review USDA requirements for travel according to the destination country the pet would be traveling to, and any countries they would be transiting/layover through.

VEHCS submissions:

  • International health certificate
  • Vaccination certificates (if vaccination required by the destination country)
  • Test results for laboratory tests (if required by the destination country)
  • Import permit (if required by the destination country)
  • Payment (see below for fees and how to submit payment)
  • Pre-paid express shipping label if USDA APHIS's digital endorsement is not accepted by the destination country (see below for more information)

If you are tranisting (passing through) the European Union:

If your pet is traveling through (transiting) a country in the European Union (EU) on the way to a third, non-EU country, you will also need a transit health certificate for your pet for the EU. The transit health certificate will be the same as if your pet's final destination was the EU country. Use the information above to determine which health certificate should be used.

Considerations for airline travel:

Airlines and shipping lines have their own policies and requirements for transporting pets. Check with your airline or shipping representative to determine what requirements they may have.
